Technip Energies Loading Systems has chosen Cascade Drives’ actuators for its new eMAX series of marine loading arms – an initiative for fast, reliable and environmentally friendly loading and unloading in ports.
Marine loading arms are used to transfer liquids such as petrochemicals, LNG, ammonia and liquid CO₂. Where hydraulics have previously been the standard, the next generation of Technip’s loading arms will be fully electric and powered by Cascade’s powerful actuators.
At Technip’s 50th anniversary in Sens, France, the companies signed a strategic partnership to further develop and integrate Cascade’s electric actuators into the eMAX products. France’s Minister for Industry and Energy, Roland Lescure, attended the ceremony.
“Our electric actuator technology is a perfect fit for marine loading systems, which must be extremely reliable, withstand all weathers, require minimal maintenance and be adaptable to different vessels and cargoes. Our actuators meet all of these requirements, and we are delighted to be working with the industry leader Technip,” says Kristian Floresjö, CEO of Cascade Drives.
The partnership covers both the conversion of existing hydraulic MLA systems and new installations of eMAX technology. For environmentally conscious ports, this provides an opportunity to quickly reduce the risk of hydraulic oil leaks and create a cleaner working environment.
Cascade’s linear actuators can easily be adapted to existing mountings, require little servicing and have a back-drive function that allows the loading arm to follow the movements of the vessels. The electric actuators also enable a high degree of automation and diagnostics, further increasing the system’s efficiency.
