Svea Solar secures land for 500 MW solar parks

Svea Solar, which has built most of Sweden's solar parks, has signed several land agreements with Stora Enso – one of the world's largest private forest owners – to build eight new solar parks.

The parks will mainly be located in central Sweden but also in southern Norrland. The total estimated capacity is approximately 500 MW, corresponding to the annual consumption of around 40,000 households or roughly half a nuclear reactor. The sites have been chosen on the basis of good conditions for grid connection and with minimal impact on nature and wildlife.

"It is fantastic to collaborate with a large landowner. We have chosen the most suitable sites on Stora Enso's land with low natural values. In this way the land is used efficiently and we can contribute locally produced electricity in two different electricity price areas," says Pieter Godderis, head of solar parks at Svea Solar.

Construction of the first solar park starts in 2026 and most of the projects are planned to be completed before 2030. Svea Solar has already built the Skakelbacken solar park on Stora Enso's land in Ludvika with a capacity of 6 MW, which will be commissioned in April.
