X Shore becomes official supplier of umpire and official boats to the 2026 Team Racing World Championship
The Swedish electric boat company X Shore has been appointed official supplier of umpire and official boats to the 2026 Team Racing World Championship, organised by Gamla Stans Yacht Sällskap (GSYS) on Riddarfjärden in Stockholm. The goal is to stage the world’s most sustainable sailing event.
The partnership starts as early as May 2025, when X Shore’s electric boats will be used as start vessels during the Stockholm International Team Race (SITR), with teams from clubs including the New York Yacht Club, Royal Thames Yacht Club, Newport Harbour Yacht Club and Annapolis Yacht Club.
– We are extremely proud to contribute to what will be the world’s most sustainable Team Racing World Championship – from recycling to fossil-free operation, says René Hansen, CEO of X Shore.
According to the Swedish Transport Agency (Transportstyrelsen), Swedish leisure boats emit around 177,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year – equivalent to more than 110,000 return flights Stockholm–New York – and 2,100 tonnes of hydrocarbons. The transition from fossil-fuelled boats to electric power is therefore crucial.
With models such as the X Shore 1, the flagship Eelex 8000 and the modular X Shore PRO, the company offers electric solutions for both private and professional use. For professionals, electric power also means up to 90% lower operating costs compared with fossil-fuelled alternatives.
X Shore – a leader in electric boats
Founded in 2016 by Konrad Bergström, X Shore has been recognised by TIME Magazine’s 100 Best Inventions and Fast Company’s World’s Most Innovative Companies, and has been named an EU Blue Champion by the European Commission and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
A World Championship with a sustainability focus
The 2026 World Championship will be the first in Europe for keelboats in team racing – and the world’s first sailing World Championship with an appointed head of sustainability. – Using X Shore’s electric boats is fully in line with our vision of showing that a world-class competition can be held in the middle of a capital city without compromising on the environment, says Magnus Myrenberg, project manager for the 2026 World Championship.
