CHRISTER BERQUIST — Altris
Salt, wood, iron and air. A battery without lithium. And a share that has risen 1,493 per cent since launch. Christer Berquist went from nine years at Accenture and more than 140 transactions, via Norrsken and 40 climate companies, to CFO and then CEO of Altris — the company that wants to replace lithium with sodium-ion batteries built on the patented cathode technology Prussian White.
MIT Technology Review recently named sodium-ion batteries one of the ten breakthrough technologies of 2026, and the company has just been selected by the EU's European Innovation Council to industrialise the technology in Europe.
In this episode we talk about why the raw materials are decisive, how compatibility with existing lithium factories can speed up the whole market, the path through 129 MSEK in capital and owners such as KIC InnoEnergy, Clarios and Maersk Growth — and how a capital-intensive early-stage deeptech company communicates both the risk and the opportunity to the right investors.
Altris shares can be traded on the unlisted secondary market via Eqvor.
