Novedo’s net sales increased 18.0 per cent in the second quarter and the group returned to organic growth after a long slump. The order backlog — orders received but not yet carried out — was considerably larger than a year earlier.

How the first half went
Over the half-year as a whole, revenue grew to 1,558 MSEK (+11 per cent), but profitability fell: operating profit (EBITA) dropped to 70 MSEK and the margin to 4.5 per cent, from 6.5. The cause was a tough start to the year: a large part of Novedo’s business is outdoor work — groundworks, civil engineering and property projects — and the harsh Nordic winter delayed project starts and weighed on earnings by around 25 MSEK. On top of this came one-off write-downs of approx. 10 MSEK.
The three business areas
Novedo is divided into three business areas. Installation & Service (installation and maintenance of properties) and Infrastructure (groundworks and civil engineering, roads, fibre and water) started the year weakly in the winter weather but saw demand gradually improve during the quarter — they had revenue of 424 and 350 MSEK respectively and together account for the majority of the group. Industry (niche industrial companies) continued to deliver good profitability, but was compared against an unusually strong quarter last year and had revenue of 123 MSEK.
After the end of the period
Novedo is convening an extraordinary general meeting to resolve on directed issues of convertibles.
Comment from the CEO
In the report, CEO Per-Johan Dahlgren notes that the group is back to organic growth after a long period and enters the second half of the year with a strong order backlog, which is considered to provide a favourable position for the coming periods.
