A3P Biomedical AB (publ) (A3P) announces that Christopher O’Connell has been appointed to the Board of Directors, bringing the company extensive strategic and operational experience.
Christopher O’Connell is a highly regarded senior executive, board member and adviser with more than thirty years of leadership experience in medical technology, life science and the global healthcare sector. He built his career over more than two decades at Medtronic, where he held a number of roles across different business areas during a period of strong expansion, finishing as President of the Restorative Therapies Group. He was also a member of Medtronic’s executive committee for nine years.
Christopher O’Connell then became Chairman and CEO of Waters Corporation, where over more than five years he led the company to strong growth in both its business and its share price. Today he is an independent board member of several innovative growth companies in medical technology, life science and diagnostics, and is involved in a number of non-profit organisations.
The appointment of Christopher O’Connell comes at a decisive stage as A3P prepares to launch its pioneering Stockholm3 test for prostate cancer screening and early detection in the United States.
“We are delighted to welcome Chris to A3P’s Board. His deep knowledge of the US healthcare system and proven track record of building world-leading diagnostics and medtech companies will be crucial as we scale up the business to establish Stockholm3 as the new global standard for prostate cancer screening,” says Martin Steinberg, Chairman of the Board.
“Stockholm3 has the potential to change how prostate cancer is screened for and managed in the United States. The combination of advanced biomarkers and genetic analysis in a single blood test, together with its proven effectiveness in studies of more than 90,000 men, creates a unique opportunity to establish a new standard of care for prostate cancer screening – one in which more aggressive cancers are detected early while unnecessary procedures are reduced. I look forward to contributing to A3P’s work to bring this important innovation to men across the United States and the world,” says Christopher O’Connell.
